On Wednesday 11th July, 2023, Fiona Spargo-Mabbs, founder and director of the DSM Foundation, was presented with an OBE by King Charles during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. This honour was in recognition of her work with young people and the drugs education charity the DSM Foundation, which was set up in 2014 following the death of Spargo-Mabbs’ son Daniel after he took an accidental overdose of ecstasy.
Fiona said: “It was such a special day, and an enormous honour to be given this level of recognition for the work of the DSM Foundation, and to receive it from the King himself – but it was also deeply bittersweet, weighted as it was with the loss of Dan, without which none of this would have happened.”
The DSM Foundation exists to provide young people with relevant, up to date and evidence-based information about drugs and equip them with the skills to make informed decisions that will keep them safe. Additionally, the charity provides caregiver workshops to support those adults involved in the lives of young people to provide the necessary guidance and advice.
