Tools with a Mission (TWAM), an Ipswich-based charity, is inviting volunteers to participate in an open day on Thursday 6th July at their Ipswich headquarters. The event, which runs from 10:30am to 12:30pm and 13:30pm to 15:30pm, will offer guided tours of the centre and the chance to speak to staff and other volunteers about the charity’s work.
TWAM is a mostly volunteer-led organisation, with volunteers helping in a variety of ways, from unloading tool deliveries to packing kits and refurbishing tools. Last year the charity opened a new refurbishment centre in Rugby, doubling their capacity to send tools to Africa. This year, TWAM plans to send 24 containers filled with almost 500 tonnes of refurbished tools to skills centres in Africa and is in need of volunteers to support them every step of the way.
Trevor Maynard, the Ipswich Refurbishment Centre Manager, said: “Volunteering with TWAM is a rewarding experience that offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. Whether it’s helping to sort donated tools, packing kits or helping with office work, our volunteers are essential to our work and play a critical role in changing lives across Africa. We couldn’t do what we do without them, and we are always excited to welcome new volunteers to our team!”
Tools with a Mission has been sending refurbished donated tools to Africa since 1984, providing vulnerable members of society with the skills to generate their own income and start their own careers.
