Today (Monday 11 September, 2023), the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) announced that Professor Friederike Otto and wood construction entrepreneur Dagmar Fritz-Kramer are the joint recipients of this year’s German Environmental Award. The 500,000-euro award is one of Europe’s most highly renumerated environmental awards and will be awarded on 29 October in Lübeck by German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
DBU Secretary General Alexander Bonde praised both award winners, saying: ‘They are a true inspiration and motivation for us to learn from the impacts of global warming, which are already evident today, and to continue implementing more and more environmental and resource protection measures so that our planet remains a habitable place.’
The German Environmental Award is one of Europe’s most highly renumerated environmental awards and has been running for 31 years. It is hoped that the two award winners will serve as an example and motivation for individuals to take part in the fight against the climate crisis.
