Pearl Lam, an icon and entrepreneur of the contemporary art world, has been confirmed to speak at the Financial Times’ Business of Art Summit 2023 in London this October.

At the summit, Lam will join other distinguished peers on a panel discussion about ‘Adjusting to a more inclusive art market and changing the consumer base’. Speaking on the topic, Lam said: “I have been a gallerist and curator for over 20 years – and those 20 years have been, arguably the most significant in our history for cultural exchange, and the diversification of the buyer. I have travelled all over the world from Asia to Africa, to South America and I am always fascinated by what I find – communities and cultures that make beautiful art away from the mainstream eyes. Art has no passport, no borders, it transcends generations, and it is our duty as an industry to ensure all voices are seen and heard.”

The panel will address the current shift in buying patterns, and the noticeable upward trajectory in the use of digital and social, as well as key demographics and how these are evolving to include a younger consumer. The discussion will explore which territories are excelling, and which are not, when it comes to making art accessible to a wider audience.

Pearl Lam brings with her over 20 years of experience as a gallerist, patron and curator. Lam is committed to developing and promoting cultural exchange between East Asia and the world, and is a leading authority on Asian art, design and the international contemporary art market. Additionally, Lam is a member of the Forbes Business Council and will be hosting The Pearl Lam Podcast on YouTube.

The Financial Times Business of Art Summit will take place on October 9, 2023, at 180 The Strand in London.
