Future Decisions Limited proudly announces its selection as a grant recipient from the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. This achievement aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable technologies through the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP). The grant will propel Future Decisions’ pioneering efforts in utilising artificial intelligence (AI) to realise the crucial objective of achieving net zero emissions within the built environment.
The grant, backed by government support, will expedite the advancement of Future Decisions’ AI-driven solutions, which are poised to revolutionise energy management in buildings by incorporating an AI overlayer to enhance control. This innovation is designed to seamlessly integrate with existing building control systems, eliminating the need for additional hardware investments or extensive control rewrites. The ultimate goal is to address the decarbonisation challenges within the built environment, where AI-powered solutions are poised to play a pivotal role in driving the UK towards its ambitious net zero target by 2050.
Dr. Richard McElligott, Director of Future Decisions Limited, conveyed his enthusiasm: “We are thrilled by the approval of this grant from the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. This endorsement reinforces our unwavering dedication to leveraging AI as a catalyst for significant change, particularly in the realms of energy efficiency and sustainability within the built environment.”
AI-Enhanced Building Control: Future Decisions is deeply involved in developing AI algorithms that optimise the efficiency of both new and existing building control systems, consequently enhancing operational efficiency. The core principle involves dynamically adjusting heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation parameters based on real-time occupancy and environmental data, utilising learned models of human and asset behaviour. Initial findings suggest potential energy savings of nearly 60%, leading to substantial reductions in carbon footprint and operational expenses.
Seamless Integration: A pivotal aspect of Future Decisions’ approach is the ability for the AI solution to seamlessly integrate with current building infrastructure, negating the need for costly upgrades, extra hardware, or rewriting building management system (BMS) logic.
Aiding Grid Stability: An important corollary of optimising energy consumption within buildings is its positive impact on grid stability and generation capacity. The AI-powered solutions possess the capability to predict peak demand surges, align green generation with building requirements, and manage demand to favour cleaner supply when available, while reducing demand during periods of high pollution.
Dr. Richard further stated: “Future Decisions is excited to contribute to UK industry’s efforts in reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly innovation through the application of artificial intelligence (AI). We extend our gratitude to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero for the grant, and acknowledge AECOM for their continued support throughout the project.”
