On Thursday 3 August, 2023, KalaSudha, a digital experience company based out of London, United Kingdom, announced the launch of the Kala Festival, a series of Indian instrumental music evenings throughout the month of August.
The event will kick off with “Music without Boundaries” on the 17th of August at the West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge. This concert is designed to use music as a universal medium to bridge cultural and language divides, featuring traditional ragas and modern melodies. Notable musicians appearing at this event include Debasis Chakroborty on the Indian Slide Guitar, Deepak Shah on the resonant Piano, Durjay Bhaumik on the tabla, and Dr Lovely Sharma on the Sitar.
Commenting on the event, Mr Rajeev Kumar, the chief organiser of the Kala Festival and principal architect of KalaSudha, said, “I am excited about celebrating our rich Indian musical heritage at the Kala Festival, where musical exponents from across India will come together to weave intricate melodies and enchant audiences. This event promises to be an unparalleled showcase of Indian classical instrumental music, fostering cultural exchange and nurturing the timeless traditions of our musical heritage.”
The festival will then move on to The Bhavan in London on the 19th of August for the Concert for Harmony and Peace, designed to promote unity and understanding close to India’s Independence Day. This event will also feature Debasis Chakroborty, Deepak Shah, Durjay Bhaumik and Dr Lovely Sharma.
The next event of the festival is at the Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Maidenhead, on the 23rd of August. This An Instrumental Journey Through Nature will blend Indian classical music with peaceful natural vibes and aims to help audiences break free from their daily routine and become with nature.
The event will culminate on the 27th of August at The Great Hall, Devon, in a show that features the Trinity Trio, bringing together three Indian classical music maestros on a single stage to create timeless music.
