Do you have a passion for helping candidates land their dream jobs? Do you feel your skills are a suitable match for working in the recruitment sector? If so, a viable career path could be to start up your own recruitment agency.

There are plenty of reasons to begin a recruitment company. This is an industry that continues to grow year on year. It is also relatively easy to get up and running, as you can even do it from the comfort of your home.

Here is how to get started with launching a recruitment agency in 2023.

Getting up to speed

It is true: you can set up a recruitment agency without any qualifications or specific training. Nevertheless, this is not an industry you want to jump into without any prior experience or knowledge in recruitment.

If you have not worked as a professional recruiter in the past, you will need to get up to speed. An accredited course and specialist training can help in that regard. It is also wise to study the ins and outs of running a business if this is a first-time entrepreneurial venture.

Pick how you operate

Not all recruitment agencies are the same. Some are based in traditional brick-and-mortar offices, others operate exclusively online. Some are well-rounded and help all professionals, while others focus on a specific industry, like media professionals or supply teachers.

Before you go any further, you have to decide how your recruitment agency will operate. Starting online, for example, helps to lower start-up costs – although you will face hefty competition attracting organic traffic. Choosing a specific recruitment niche, however, can help you to stand out and go up against less direct rivals.

Understand cash flow

In fact, you do not have to just understand cash flow – you need to know how it works in reference to a recruitment company. For example, you have to keep in mind you don’t get paid until you have helped a candidate land a position. This means you could struggle to bring in revenue for a period of time, and that can result in serious cash flow problems.

There is one solution for cash flow: invoice financing. Invoice finance for recruiters is a savvy tactic to keep in your back pocket when needed. Rather than have to wait for your commissions to be paid, these can be financed immediately by a lender. This is because the lender releases cash against your sale invoices prior to them being paid. The money can then be utilized for any purpose you see fit.

Write your business plan

You should always produce a business plan before taking the plunge and launching your agency. The following guide shows you how to write a business plan effectively.

Not only does this provide you with valuable information for planning your company, but it is also a way to secure initial working capital to survive the first months of trading when revenue is minimal.
