Over 100 Town and Parish Councillors from Cornwall gathered together to discuss issues around affordable housing at a conference organised by the Cornwall Association of Local Councils, Coastline Housing and Ocean Housing.
Experts from the community housing sector in Cornwall provided talks and workshops to answer questions raised by the councillors. Chris Weston, Director of Development at Coastline Housing, commented: “We understand there is a severe housing crisis in Cornwall and we want to help address this. Bringing a new development into being can be complex, however, so it was great to have an event where people could ask questions openly and honestly and get answers from those with experience in the field. We hope this has increased understanding around affordable housing and built new relationships.”
The event included speakers such as Allister Young, CEO of Coastline Housing; Olly Monk, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Housing at Cornwall Council; Sarah Roberts, Rural Housing Enabler at Cornwall Council and Andrew George, CEO of Cornwall Community Land Trust. Workshops focused on topics such as identifying and progressing sites, the role of design and planning for a scheme, and delivery and allocations procedures.
The slides and notes from the event can be found on the Community Association of Local Councils’ website.
