EDMI, one of the leading smart meter manufacturers in the world, and Sense, a pioneer in the field of machine learning software for smart meters, have announced their collaboration to deliver next generation smart meters to the APAC and EMEA regions. The meters will be capable of sampling data at one million times a second (1MHz), offering unprecedented resolution as well as real time intelligence at the grid edge.

Brett Reid, Executive Director at EDMI ANZ, commented on the partnership: “EDMI’s focus on partnerships in this region has been the cornerstone of our success. It is through partnerships like these that EDMI will be best placed to provide significant support to those using our solutions to address the challenges and opportunities faced as the move towards carbon net zero gathers momentum.”

EDMI is the largest meter supplier in Australia and a leading provider in the Asia Pacific region, EMEA and the UK, having deployed over 30 million smart devices across more than 100 countries.

Dene Bannister, EDMI’s ANZ Regional Head of Sales and Customer Experience, said: “By incorporating the advanced technology solutions developed by Sense, EDMI continues to build on its reputation as a provider of reliable but innovative solutions. Sense’s leading machine learning software for smart meters promises to unlock new capabilities for our customers.”

Michael Jary, Sense’s Managing Director across APAC & EMEA, added: “Sense software is the most cost-effective investment that can be made in the energy transition. For instance, using real-time device detection, Sense can detect the highest consuming appliances in the home, and help consumers turn down specific devices during peak demand. 18% reductions in load are possible – almost three times greater than previous best in class.”

The rapid adoption of next generation smart meters is expected to bring intelligence to millions of homes. According to market intelligence firm Guidehouse, the global penetration of smart meters will climb from approximately 44 percent at the end of 2020 to 56 percent by the end of 2028, resulting in over 1.2 billion devices globally.

The combination of EDMI’s advanced meters and Sense’s real time home intelligence software will significantly reduce the cost of managing the energy system and delivering theenergy transition. It will also enable utilities to access domestic flexibility at scale, optimise power management across the home, and improve their power purchasing with detailed forecasting. Most importantly, consumers will benefit from an engaging real-time application, allowing them to determine how much energy individual appliances consume in real time, save money on their bills, and reduce their carbon footprint.
